Re: Animal Farm
Dear Mr Tan,
Does inserting SEE into our literature essays score for us?
And for animal farm themes, do they come in phrases/sentences too?
It revolves around the idea of corruption and power, so...
Can 'power' and 'corruption' be counted as subject matters?
I thought of some possible themes:
(1) Abuse of power
(2) Corruption of Communism
(3) More power leads to corruption and control
(4) (The Corruption Cycle Thing)
(5) The Dangers of the working class (Boxer, Clover etc.)
Are those mentioned above feasible?
Thanks! And really apologetic if I sounded abrupt/rude.

yes, themes should always be in sentences. so abuse of power would be better phrased as, "people in power tend to abuse it" or "with great power comes great corruption" (haha just trying to mimic spiderman). but something like that. corruption of communism sounds rather weird. I think the "corruptive nature of communism" sounds better. (3) is good. (4) is the same as (3). (5) - be specific as to what these "dangers" are.
Writing in SEE would give your essay more coherence and structure. I dunno if it would explicitly score you more marks, but it is always good to do so.

Re: Animal Farm
well, strictly speaking, no. The word 'idea' has multiple meanings. In Lit, an 'idea' is something very general - could be a theme, could be subject matter. Try to avoid using the term 'idea' - it isn't part of the literary terminology that you would want to use. Maybe in a casual conversation with someone, you could say that "oh, this poem has some interesting ideas" but thats pretty much it.

Another question:
Do we have to link the events and make comparison between Animal farm and those of Russian Revolution?
